Marc Jacobs 出生於1963年4月9號New York City . 1981年畢業於 High School of Art and Design之後 他進入了Parson's School of Design就讀

在1984年於Parson's就學期間Marc Jacobs曾一口氣容獲學校最高的三最獎項the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award,還有the Design Student of the Year Award

同年他也幫Ruben Thomas, Inc. under the Sketchbook label設計了一款手織毛衣還開始跟Robert Duff合作品牌Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc.

1986年Marc Jacobs開始他自己的自創品牌Marc Jacobs

隔年Marc Jacobs得到時裝界最高榮譽The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award的新人獎 1992年CFDA也頒給他the Women's Designer of the Year Award

1993年Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc.拿到了他們的品牌證照還有了自己的公司Marc Jacobs International Company, L.P. 94'年再日本簽了他們第一個同意證照 隨後 工廠坐落於義大利威尼斯Iris S.R.L.也簽了他們的 開始製造他們所有的鞋款

1997年一月 他們加入了Louis Vuitton Jacobs成為藝術總監而Duffy則是工作室的監導 同年下旬 首間Marc Jacobs坐落於紐約蘇活區163 Mercer Street 同時也第三次獲得CFDA頒的Women's Designer of the Year
